Gainesville Sun; Gainesville FL; 2003-8-15 Robert J. Lake of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 75. Mr. Lake was born in Montana and raised in Yakima, Wash. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. His 35-year career in the aeronautical navigation industry began while he was serving in the Navy. After joining the FAA, he was stationed at Miami International Airport, before becoming manager of the airway facilities sector field office at Gainesville Airport in 1966. He was an avid camper, traveler, photographer and ham radio operator. He enjoyed designing and building radio-controlled planes, furniture and musical instruments. He was also a member of Gainesville Computer Club and was a Boy Scout assistant leader. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Lake. Survivors include his wife, Anna Lake of Gainesville; his father, William Lake, who is 108 years old, of Yakima, Wash.; a son, Steven Lake of Waldo; a daughter, Kathy Shupe of Gainesville; five stepchildren; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 14 stepgrand-children.
