Belvidere Daily Republican; Belvidere IL; 2001-4-4 Roger H. Lake, 60 Roger H. Lake, a resident of Montrose, Colo. since 1978 and a longtime Montrose RE-1J School District administrator, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital & Medical Center, Grand Juntction, Colo. Roger H. Lake, the son of LaVerne F. Lake and Clara Jane (Teeple) Lake, was born on Oct. 24, 1940, in Belvidere. He spent from birth to the sixth grade in Belvidere, then moved with his family to Southern California. On Aug. 30, 1961, Roger was joined in marriage with his best friend and the love of his life, Linda G. Purcell, at California DelMar, Calif. Their lives together were enriched when they became the parents of two sons. Roger and Linda would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year in August. In 1978, the Lake family moved to Montrose where Roger was employed as the assistant principal at Montrose High School for two years and was principal the next seven years,. His recent position was in school administration for outside programs and as executive director of BOCES. Roger had worked at the last two positions for the past 13 years. He was a member of Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053 and past president of the Montrose County Airport Advisory Board. Roger loved the outdoors as well as biking, flying, scuba diving and traveling. His death leaves an emptiness in the lives of all those he touched. Love has always been and love is today- nothing has changes that. Roger leaves behind a world that is a better place because he was here. All who knew and loved him will cherish their memories of him. Roger will be deeply missed. Surviving family members who were blessed to share Roger's life include his wife, Linda G. Lake, of Montrose; two sons; and three precious grandchildren: Robert Lake and wife Linda and their son Tyler Lake, David Lake and wife Deborah and their two children Sydney and Harrison Lake, all of Pasadena, Calif. Preceding him in death was his father, LaVerne F. Lake. Memorial sevices in loving remembrance and to honor and say farewell to Roger were held on March 31.
