Courier-Tribune (online edition) Asheboro, NC August 23, 2004 Ruby H. Lake MT. GILEAD - Ruby Henley Lake, age 94, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va. Funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Mt. Gilead, where the body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The Rev. Jim Harris and the Rev. John Bell will officiate. Interment will follow at Sharon Cemetery. Born in Randolph County, she lived in Mt. Gilead the majority of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert B. and Lilly Branson Henley; her husband, William W. Lake; and her two brothers, Earl and Robert G. Henley. She was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Gilead and an associate member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Va. She worked in many capacities in and around Montgomery County, including the Mt. Gilead correspondent for the Montgomery Herald. She retired for the third time at age 82, after serving as secretary for First United Methodist Church, Mt. Gilead, for 11 years. She enjoyed the fellowship of its members and friends and always referred to Mt. Gilead as home. She loved life and making people laugh. She lived the last eight years with her daughter in Portsmouth. She is survived by her son, William "Buddy" Lake Jr. and wife, Kay of Bark River, Mich.; and her daughter, Martha Windley of Portsmouth, Va.; three grandchildren, Garry Windley and wife, Lisa of Smithfield, Va., Susan Windley of Portsmouth, Va., Caroline Lake of Marquette, Mich.; and her great-grandson, Jeremy Windley, "the sweetest boy she ever knew." The family will receive friends on Sunday, Aug. 22, from 6-9 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home of Mt. Gilead. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 176, Mt. Gilead, N.C. 27306.
