Rubye L. McKenzie Lake, 72, of Los Angeles, died Friday, Aug. 27,
2004. The service will be at 10 a.m. PDT Thursday at Chapel of the Chimes,
with burial at Inglewood Memorial Park in Inglewood, Calif. Angelus
Funeral Home in Los Angeles (323-296-6666) is handling arrangements. She
was born on Nov. 27, 1931, to Rosa McKenzie and Gilbert Hodges as
an only child. Her early years were spent in Tallahassee, where she
graduated from Lincoln High School, followed by her graduation from
the Florida A&M University School of Nursing. Rubye leaves to cherish
her memory two sons, Wilbur L. James of Los Angeles and Judge McKenzie
of Tallahassee; a daughter-in-law, Sondra James; eight grandchildren;
21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a goddaughter, Gail
Hamilton; Ernestine Dennis, affectionately known as her play daughter; a
host of nieces and nephews; lifelong friends, Eddie and Delores Randolph;
and many other devoted friends.
