Published in Orange County Register on August 13, 2013 Orange County CA Sadie Sue Pendleton Lake, our dear loving mother and grandmother, passed to a better place on August 11, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 70 at her passing. Sue was born to Gail Cummings Pendleton Jr., and Anita Louis Stewart on December 8, 1942 in Topeka, Kansas. She moved with her family to Garden Grove in 1954 and attended Garden Grove High School from which she graduated in 1960, having been a Homecoming Princess her freshman year and a Song Leader her senior year. Sue met and first dated the love of her life and husband of 40 years, Harry Louis Lake Jr., her freshman year. After attending Santa Ana Junior College and Chico State College, she enrolled in flight attendant school and in 1963 began a 40 year career as a flight attendant for TWA. After several years of courtship, Harry and Sue were married on April 23, 1966. During their 40 years of marriage, Harry and Sue and their family resided first in Garden Grove and later in Orange. Sue loved to spend time with her kids, grandkids and her many friends. She loved her job and to travel all around the world, including her favorites; Cairo, Kauai and London. She loved to cook and look through cookbooks to find new recipes. She always enjoyed planning a party, especially the menu. Lastly, she loved to knit. She would make afghans and baby blankets for family and friends. Sue is survived by her children: Andrew Charles Lake, his wife Julie Baker Lake, and their children Quentin Baker Lake, Sydney Baker Lake, and Payton Baker Lake of Portland, OR; James Stewart Lake, his wife Heather Joy Paymar Lake, and their children Jonathan Darrik Lake, Parker Keaton Lake, and Isaac Robert Lake of St. Louis, MO; and Katherine Lake of Orange, CA. In addition to her mother Anita, Sue is survived by her younger sisters, Patricia Keane and Penny Pendleton. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Harry who passed away January 18, 2007. She is also preceded in death by her son, James' twin, Jonathan, who died during childbirth. Services for Sue will be held at Waverly Chapel at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana on Thursday, August 15 at 2:30 PM, followed by burial.
