Devitt, Shirley C.  - age 80, passed away at a local care facility
on Sunday, September 3, 2006.  She was born to Floyd and Helen Lake on
April 3, 1926, in San Rafael, California.  After completing school in San
Jose, California, she worked for the telephone company as a switchboard
operator.  She fell in love and married Bill Devitt on April 24, 1949,
in the United Methodist Church of San Jose.  Together, they created
two daughters, Shirley Marie Landels of Aloha, Oregon and JoAnn Nel
Baasch of Brunswick, Ohio.  In 1982, Shirley and Bill moved to Roseburg,
Oregon.Over the years, she participated in many volunteer activities.
She was also a life member of the Magnolia Chapter #45, Order of Eastern
Star and a member of Newcomers and Friends.  She loved doing things
with her family, her gardens, and crafts until arthritis made it too
difficult to continue those pursuits.  She set a fine example of hard
work and nurturing.  In addition to her immediate family, including her
son-in-law, Bruce Baasch, she leaves many cousins and her beloved cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Marian caldwell and
son-in-law Cleon Landels.  Private cremation rites are being held.
