(03/00/04) Age 76 years. Daughter of the late Hilda and Joseph Lakin, Sylvia
was born January 24, 1924 in Detroit, Mich. She married Harris J. Block in
1943. He preceded her in death March 13, 1998. Sylvia and her husband Harris
were co-owners of Block's Investment Company, Block's Plaza. She was a
member of Temple B'Nai Israel, Temple Sisterhood and Opti-Mrs. Sylvia was an
avid bowler in the Saginaw area. Surviving are two daughters, Leanore Ann
Block-Brockman and her husband Paul S. Brockman Sr. of Atlanta, Ga. and Dr.
Ilene G. Block of Indianapolis, Ind.; one son, Steven J. Block of Saginaw;
two sisters, Rita Daniels of Southfield, Mich. and Roslyn Frias of
California; several nieces and nephews. Sylvia was preceded in death by two
sisters, Jennie Blair and Mary Simpson, one brother, William Lakin. Funeral
Service will take place 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2000 at the Deisler
Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rabbi Robert Scott will
officiate. Interment will follow in the Hebrew Cemetery. Friends may call at
the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of
flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider
memorials to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or
the charity of donor's choice.
