The Journal, Martinsburg, WV. August 10, 2002 Thomas E. Lake Jr. Brunswick, Md. - Thomas Edward Lake Jr., died Thurday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born May 6, 1926, in Millville, WV., he was the son of the late Thomas E. Sr. and Anna Catherine Overholtz Lake. He was a retired railroad engineer at CSX railroad with 38 years of service. He served in World War II in Germany for the Department of the Army. He attended Harpers Ferry High School. He was a member of the Shenandoah Memorial United Methodist Church in Millville and also attended the Jefferson United Church of Church in Jefferson, Md. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 96 of Brunswick, Md., the Loyal Order of the Moose 1582 of Brunswick, The Rallsplitters Society Inc. 84 th Infantry Division, the Eagles 1136 of Brunswick, Harpers Ferry Bolivar District Veterans', Harpers Ferry Alumni, Brunswick Museum and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He served at past president for the Brotherhood Locomotive Fireman and Engineers and volunteered for the honor guard of the American Legion, helped with Toys for Tots. Along with being a trustee he was also a Friday night chef for the Loyal Order of the Moose in Brunwick, Md. He enjoyed tap dancing, cooking, and vacationing in Flordia and Ocean City, Md., along with spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lillie Drucilla Breeden Lake; three daughters, Sandra Drucilla and husband, Billy Hemp, Linda Christine and husband, Bobby Whip, all of Jefferson Md., and Andrea Catherine and husdand, Skip Vemillion, of Brunswick, Md.; one son, Thomas Alan and Cyndi Lake, of Detour, Md.; 15 grandchildren, Angela and husband, Ron Hill, of Brunswick, Robby and wife, Tracey Whipp, of Rosemount, Md., Jeff and Jenny Lake, Keri and husband, Gary Albright, of Thurmont, Md., Roxy and wife, Joelle Grossnickle, of Jefferson, Md., Teresa and husband Sean Conto, of Germantown, Md., Rodney Lake, of Germantown, Md.,Tommy Lake Jr. and fiancee, Liz of Detour, Md., Lesley Whipp, Daniel Hemp, of Jefferson,Md., Jamee Harkins, Kyle Bogard and Brooke Hemp, of Jefferson, Md.,Caleb and Gabriel Vermillion of Brunswick; Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren Tarin Amanda, and Dayna Sweeney, Danielle Hill, Gabriel Lake, Jared Lake, Justin Albright, Hailey Albright, Isabella Lake, Vanessa Lake, Sydney Whipp, and Alayna Grossnickle. He will also be remembered by brother-in-law, Eugene Dewalt, of Carlise, Pa.; a faithful friend and nephew, Gregg Volland of Peoria, Ariz. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant brother; three sisters, Helen Himes, Louise Dewalt and Dorothy Lake; and one niece, Virginia Valland. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug 12, 2002, at the Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3837 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson Md. Pastor Guy A. Wenck will officiate. Interment will be in Jefferson Md. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p. m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002 at the John T. Lake Jr. Train Engineer Thomas Edward Lake Jr., 76, who worked as a train engineer for 38 years before retiring in the mid-1980s from what is not the CSX Transportation system, died of cardiac arrest Aug. 8 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He lived in Brunswick, Md. He worked for the system when it was know by such names as the Baltimore & Ohio and Chessie System railroads. He served as a lodge president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Engineers. Mr. Lake, who lived in the Washington area for the past 54 years, was born in West Virginia. During World War II, he was an Army military policeman in Europe and received four Bronze stars, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a member of the Rail-Splitters Society of the 84th Infantry Division. He also belonged to American Legion Post No. 95 in Brunswick, for whom he did volunteer work, and Brunswick Moose Lodge No. 1582 in Brunswick, where [he] was a trustee and Friday night chef.
