Daily Record Middletown, NY 12 Mar 2015 Thomas Joseph Kiernan AGE: 81 - Madison Thomas Joseph Kiernan, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away March 10th, 2015 on the day following his 81st birthday. A proud lifetime resident of Madison, NJ, he passed away quietly at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. A Marine Corp. veteran of the Korean War, Thomas Kieran later served his community as a 28-year veteran of the Madison Fire Department, first as a firefighter, then as Lieutenant and finally as Chief. He retired in 1991. The son of Madison Police Sergeant William Kiernan and Elizabeth Kiernan, he is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Loretta Kiernan (formerly Parker) and devoted sons William, T.J. and Matthew Kiernan. He was loved deeply by daughter-in-law Kay and grandchildren Thomas and Elizabeth of Madison. An only child, he remained close with his many cousins throughout his life, especially Jack Downs. Services will be held at the Burroughs. Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home in Madison, NJ on Friday, March 13th, from 4pm to 8pm, followed by his funeral at 10am on Saturday, March 14th, at St. Vincent's Church in Madison. He will be laid to rest at St. Vincent's Cemetery in a private ceremony at another date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Madison Ambulance Corp.
