The Hawk Eye; Burlington IA; 2001-7-22 Sunday, 7/22/2001 Tony Courtois Tony E. Courtois, 86, of Ursa, Ill., died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Harry Truman Memorial VA Hospital in Columbia, Mo. Born Dec. 17, 1914, in Hancock County, Ill., he was the son of George and Cora Lake Courtois. On July 10, 1947, he married Celia Rupp in Elvaston, Ill. Mr. Courtois worked for Local 965 Operating Engineer Union as a machinery operator for 35 years before retiring in 1979. He lived east of Lima, Ill., for 32 1/2 years before moving to Ursa. He was a member of Lima Lodge 135 AF & AM, the Quincy Consistory and a lifetime member of Local 965 Operating Engineer Union. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, serving in the 74th field artillery. He also enjoyed playing the fiddle and judged many fiddle contests. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Tony Courtois, Gailand Courtois, Gregory Courtois and Loren Courtois, all of Quincy, Ill., and Terry Courtois of Milwaukee, Wis.; two grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Albert Courtois of Coatsburg, Ill., and Kenneth Dale Courtois of Marcelline, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Private graveside services were held. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
