Hamilton Journal-News (OH), Sunday, October 6, 2002 - Pg B2 - Turk Van Lake Jazz guitarist dead at 84 The Associated Press New York - Turk Van Lake, a jazz guitarist and arranger of swing music, died Sept. 1 at 84. He recorded with Sarah Vaughan and played with the Benny Goodman Orchestra during its 1962 Russian tour. Under the original name, Vanig Hovsepian, he studied 12-tone composition at the Boston Conservatory and became a classical composer. In the 1940's he worked with Lionel Hampton and Buddy Rich.
