Published May 30, 2006, The Capital, Annapolis, Md. Valentine Lakos Valentine "Bela" Lakos, 84, of Annapolis and formerly of Wheaton for 46 years, died May 29 of complications due to Alzheimer's disease at Heritage Harbour Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Budapest, Hungary on Nov. 18, 1921, Mr. Lakos earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics before coming to the United States and living in Wheaton. He was the heating and cooling engineer for the National Education Association in Washington, D.C., before his retirement. Devoted to his family, he enjoyed stamp collecting, gardening, history, wine making and dancing with his wife of 60 years, Elisabeth Lakos. Also surviving are two daughters, Ann Collins of Riva and Margaret Waldron of Manassas, Va.; one sister, Margaret Arnold of Fort Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Community Church of Riva, 3272 Riva Road. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Maryland, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
