Sioux City Journal; Sioux City IOWA; 1997-6-24 AKRON, Iowa - Velda B. Peck, 86, of Akron died suddenly Monday, June 23, 1997, a her residence. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of Christ in Akron with the Rev. Justin May officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Mrs. Peck was born on June 5, 1911, in Durham, Mo., the daughter of Albert and Katherine (Gross) Lake. She graduated from school in Akron. She married Harold Peck on Oct. 28, 1933, in Akron. He died in 1957. She was a member of the First Church of Christ and a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, secretary, treasurer, pianist, and member of Ladies Aide of the church. She was employed with the United States Postal service from 1948 until her retirement in 1973. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Haroldine (Dee) and A. Earl Hilliker of Sioux City; two granddaughters and their husbands, Sherry and Gaylen Rasmussen of South Sioux City, and Nan and Tracy Ankrum of Sioux City; six great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Pallbearers will be Steve Wilcox, Scott Lake, Darcy Fletcher, Ron Prunty, Bruce McGinnis, Richard Langley, Don Peters, Lyle McGinnis, Charles Hendricks, Bob Lanning, Eldon Smith and Merlyn Klemme.
