Redding Record Searchlight; Redding CA; 2008-11-11 Vernon LeRoy Lake Redding- 1922-2008 Vern passed away peacefully on November 6, 2008 at Windsor Redding Care Center. He is survived by his wife Terry Lake, his son James Lake, his loving stepdaughters, Dianne (Rick) Presta and Monique (John) Gardiner. Ten grandchildren, nine great grandchidlren and many nieces and nephews. Vern retired from the Shasta County Sheriffs Dept. in 1981 after 28 years of law enforcement work. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the "USS Drayton" stationed in the South Pacific, where he was awarded many metals of honor and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Vern was born in Orland, CA the fourth of five boys and moved to the Redding area at the age of six. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years mary, all of his brothers and his son Robert Lake. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many years of hunting, gardening and wodd working. Services will be held at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. a reception will follow at the VFW Halll in Anderson. In lieu of flowers the family askes that donations be made in Vern's name to Mercy Hospice, 1544 Market St. Redding. Our family wishes to thank Mercy Hospice and Windsor Redding Care Center for their loving care, kindness and support during this difficult time.
