Lake Vernon Ross Lake, 80, residing at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Nassawadox, passed away there on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005. Born on Nov. 1, 1925, in Benton Harbor, Mich., his mother was Alice M. Lake, and his father Ira Cambden Lake. Vernon was the youngest of five children, Richard Kenneth Lake, Genevieve, Virginia B. (Ginny) Randall, and Oral Wesley Lake, who was the oldest. Vernon was a World War II Veteran and was Honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in Corvallis, Ore., 1945. He attended Hospital Corps School, in Great Lakes, Ill. while in service, and was both Hospital Apprentice First Class and Pharmacist's Mate Third Class during his service. At one point in his career he worked for McDonnell Douglas aircrafts in Long Beach, Calif. When he retired back to his home in Michigan, he became an avid bird watcher. He is survived by his only daughter,Kathy Ebanda, born Kathleen Sue Lake, in Kalamazoo, Mich., living in Ashland, Ore. Kathy's mother, Vernon's former spouse, Mary Elizabeth Deaton, in North Carolina; a sister, Virginia B. (Ginny) Randall in St. Joseph, Mich., and a brother Richard (Dick) Kenneth Lake in Oakland. Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. with The Rev. G. Wayne Parsley officiating and again at Eagle Point National Veterans Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore., his final resting place. Arrangements by the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home.
