Lake LAVERNE, Okla. - Walter Lee Lake, 85, died Jan. 30, 2007 at Golden Oaks Nursing Center, Enid, Okla. He was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Laverne, Okla., the son of Charles Albert and Effie Iola Duvall Lake. A resident of Enid, Okla., he worked for Lake Insurance and was a U.S. postal carrier and a rancher. He belonged to First Baptist Church, Laverne Golf and Country Club, was a member of I.O.O.F. Laverne Masonic Lodge, had been the mayor of Laverne, and was a O.E.D.A. Representative on First Council of Mayors for the state. He married Marvene McClellan. On May 6, 1951, he was remarried to Margaret Wells in Laverne, Okla. She survives. Other survivors include: three daughters, Alinda Gallegos, Alva, Okla., Judy O'Neal, Hillsborough, Calif., and Sheila Slinkard, Mesa, Wash.; two sisters, Marie Armstrong, Oklahoma City, and Wilma Nelson, Woodward, Okla.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Laverne, with the Revs. Michael Wilcox and Gaylon Cox presiding. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Golden Oaks, Enid, with Pastor Ron Chastin and Chaplain Shorty Unruh. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. today at Myatt-Seeger Funeral Home, Laverne. Burial will be in Laverne Memorial Cemetery.
