Published in Patriot-News on October 26, 2011 Harrisburg, PA William Ahrens Lake, Sr., 93, formerly of Camp Hill, passed away October 9, 2011 in Vero Beach, FL. He was born April 12, 1918 in New York City, the son of Lillian S. and John C. Lake, Sr., and grew up in Lake Hopatcong NJ. He was proud to have served his country in WWII in 102nd Calvary (The Essex Troop). He was awarded the "Colonel James E. Fleming Award" and was made a Distinguished Member of the Essex Troop. Among his citations are the Silver Star, Bronze Star, European Theater Ribbon with a Silver Star (five campaigns), the Bronze Arrowhead Device, the Belgian Fourragere, and the Cavalier Award of the French Legion of Honor. Following the war Mr. Lake worked for The Bank of Manhattan, and then for Carrier Corporation for 10 years, where he traveled the country championing home air conditioning. In 1964 he joined Peirce-Phelps, Inc. retiring as Executive Vice-President after 20 years service. Mr. Lake loved to golf, and did so into his 92nd year. He was a member, and past president, of the West Shore County Club; St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Mechanicsburg; SCORE; Vero Beach Country Club; St. Augustine Of Canterbury Episcopal Church, Vero Beach, FL.; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Veterans of The Battle Of The Bulge, Essex Troop Association, and 117th Calvary Association. Survivors include Betty Jane Lake, his loving wife of 12 years; son William A. Lake, Jr. and wife, Virginia of Austin, TX; daughter Debra L. Lusk and husband Michael of Harrisburg, PA; granddaughter Whitney Lake Harlan and grandson William A. Lake III, both of Austin, TX; granddaughter Danielle H. Count of New Cumberland, PA; great-grandchildren, Jamison, Reina and Vivian of New Cumberland, PA and Ainsley of Austin, TX; nephew John Lake of Palm Beach, FL; stepdaughters Michelle DeMars of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Amy Lehoullier, her husband John, and their sons Ben and Jack all of Fellsmere, FL. He was predeceased by his first wife of 57 years, Louise Harrington Hall Lake; son Martin H. Lake; brother John C. Lake, Jr.; and sister Velma Lake Koleszar.
