Lake, 81, of 246 Chestnut St., was held in Brookside Cemetery with the Rev. Richard W. Kennedy officiating. Mr. Lake died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Samaritan Medical Center. Arrangements were with D.L. Calarco Funeral Home. He was a brakeman and conductor for the New York Central Railroad, later Penn Central Railroad, for 43 years. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's church and a member of the Watertown Golf Club, Army and Navy American Legion Post 61 and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. Born March 20, 1924, in Watertown, son of DeWitt C. and Rosalie M. Clark Lake, he attended Watertown High School and served in the Army from 1944 to 1947. He married Marian C. Nichols on July 5, 1946, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church rectory in Adams with the Rev. Walter T. Cleary officiating. Surviving besides his wife are a son, William J. Jr., Felts Mills; a brother, Thomas J., Watertown; two sisters, Ellen Lake Swayze, Watertown, and Mrs. Richard (Ann) Bennett, Gouverneur, and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Cheryl Reiber, and a sister, Joan Rosen, died before him. Donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or a charity of one's choice.
