The Daily Courier, June 19, 1933 Connellesville, (Fayette) PA William L. Robbins Dies After Brief Illness; Was 89 William Long Robbins, aged 89, one of Connellsville’s oldest and best known citizens, died at 11:30 o’clock this morning at his home, 333 East Crawford avenue. He had been ill for about two weeks. Born in Bullskin Township on November 23, 1813, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Levi Robbins, he had spent his life in this region, most of which he resided in this city. A bricklayer and mason by trade, he followed that occupation until he was in his 80th year before he retired During his life he was associated with the late L.L. West and with the late Worth Kilpatrick in the contracting business. Mr. Robbins was an active member of the odd Fellows and of the Knights of Pythias and the First Presbyterian Church. His wife, Elizabeth Murray Robbins, died about nine years ago. Two sons, A. Benton Robbins at home, and William M. Robbins of Cleveland, Ohio, survive, together with three halfsisters, Mrs. J.S. McCaleb of Harrisburg, Mrs. Charles M. Evans of Detroit, Mrs. Paris Hinkle of Glendale, Cal., and one halfbrother, Albert Robbins of this city. Posted by: "BRIAN ROBBINS" hilo80@yahoo.com HILO80 Date: Tue Feb 17, 2009 6:37 pm ((PST)) The obituary is in error. William L Robbins was born in 1843, not 1813. His father, Levi Robbins, was married 3 times. The first two wives were sisters, the Crossland sisters Eliza and Rebecca. Both died very young. I have the locations of the graves etc. Levi was a brick mason in fayette county. His father was Aaron Robbins, who with 2 other brothers and their families, migrated to Connellsville in 1807, from Monmouth Co,NJ. Aaron's father was Ephraim, who died in Connellsville in 1817. He, like Aaron lived to a old age for the times. Aaron lived until 93, died in 1874. He had voted democratic all his life and he first voted for Thomas Jefferson in 1803. William had a most tragic life when it came to his children. He had 11 children, but only 2 sons survived to adulthood. Newspaper obits show he lost 4 children in one week to diphtheria. If anyone can identify exactly which Ephraim Robins in Revolutionary times NJ is this man, then I will know the entire family tree of the Robbins, going back to Daniel Robinson of Scotland. WV. I beg your pardon, while I am familiar with Bullskin Twp. by way of census records, I double-checked a Fayette County map and realized that is northern Fayette. I haven't found any connection with the Connellesville families, the names haven't even carried over. We don't have any Aarons, Levis, Ephraims, or even Moses. Without consulting my notes... the earliest generation was William married to Mary (Evans?) he was in the 1800 Census living in Maidsville, WV (Monongalia) There one daughter, four or five sons (William, George, Daniel John and Joseph). I am descended from John b. abt. 1797, married to a Sarah. I am descended from John's son Perry b. 1832, a Civil War vet., married Katherine (Baer?). Perry was listed as a stonemason in at least one census, my great-grandfather Arthur was a potter, a.k.a. stonemason in Greensboro and New Geneva. Since the DNA test match, I assume there is a direct connection with the Connellesville families, it remains an enigma.
