Born to Newell and Margery Lake, May 14, 1924, Bill retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio. He attended Scott High School and was a navy veteran serving in WWII. It was his yearly pleasure to dress as Santa Claus to countless children of all ages. His sense of humor will be sadly missed. He was commander of American Legion Post 135 in Toledo. He was a long-standing spiritualist. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Jane, and daughter, Patricia Lynne. Survivors include sisters, Naomi (Eugene Conger), Eunice Meier, and brother, Jim (Phyllis) of Deming, New Mexico. Daughters include, Nancy Hassen, Christine, and Wendy S. (Jolly Williams); sons, Michael (Joan), William D. (Julie), James N., Richard O. (Cynthia), Randall O. (Rebecca). There are 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He also left one final cup of coffee for his special friends, Joe Havican and Meredyth K. Tilton. The family invites friends to visit from 2-8 p.m., Wednesday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave., (419) 472-7633, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the family. Burial will be private.
