Please go back to my site & look at Doris Robbins daughter of Arthur H. & Ada Tribbett Robbins. Census records can be helpful but not a sure thing. I have posted Arthur H.'s obituary for you so you can see I'm correct in linking Doris Robbins Atkinson as his daughter. Yes, Albert & Marian Davis Robbins had a daughter named Doris. Doris daughter of Albert & Marian Robbins married James Teel not Joseph A tkinson. Sara ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sender:"Sara" Post Date/Time:2011-03-31 12:27:02 Subject:Mary Robins d/o Daniel & Hope I'd like to share an inquiry sent to me regarding the validity of a marriage for Mary Robins b. Dec. 14, 1664 in Haven Haven, CT daughter of Daniel & Hope to Thomas Cox, Jr. My response is as follows: Yes, the wife of T homas Cox, Jr. was named Mary, her maiden name is unknown. This is the same Thomas Cox who mentions "cousins" Sarah & Marabe daughters of Nathaniel Robins in his will written in 1722. I believe the girls were the nieces of Thomas Cox, Jr. & not those of his wife. The will of Mary Cox wife of Thomas Cox, Jr. is dated August 6, 1757 at Upper Freehold, Monmouth Co., NJ. It states she was 86 years of age at the time the will was written m aking her birthdate about 1671. The birth of Mary Robins is documented as 1664 in the New Haven Vital Records. Mary Cox left a large estate to her son Thomas Cox, grandchildren & Baptist Church at Upper Freehold. She do es not mention any Robins in her will & no Robins served as a witness or appraiser of her estate. From Dr. John E. Stillwell's "Historical & Genealogical Miscellany," Vol III "Cox Family of Monmouth Co., NJ" pg. 169 quote, "Mary perhaps was the sister of Thomas Wright, of Shrewsbury, which I infer from the fact tha t Thomas Cox, her husband, settled the estate of Walter Wright but more especially from a paper, referring to a controversy concerning the title to lands, between the Stouts, Wrights, Walls and Coxes." I find no evidence for Mary Robins as the wife of Thomas Cox, Jr. or that she was ever married to any other person. Subject: Facts & Genes Volume 9, Issue 3, Summer 2011 Facts & Genes Volume 9, Issue 3, Summer 2011 In The News Family Tree DNA absorbs DNA Heritage database Last April, Family Tree DNA acquired DNA Heritage's domain and database. Existing DNA Heritage customers have already started opting in their results to Family Tree DNA's database. Opting-in will allow for matching, j oining Family Tree DNA projects, receiving your own FTDNA Personal Page with secure login credentials to access your DNA results, and a special rate to upgrade your results. If you’re a DNAH customer who has not yet opt ed in, please use the following link: http://www.familytreedna.com/landing/dna-heritage.aspx Family Tree DNA announces Third-Party Labs Y-DNA acceptance We are pleased to inform you about the launch of a new feature "Third Party" uploads. This will allow for the upload of 33 and 46-marker Y-DNA test results from Ancestry, GeneTree or Sorensen's SMGF. This was a natural development since the necessary tools were created to import the DNA Heritage database after they ceased operations. While the DNA Heritage transfer is free of charge as a result of that acquisition, we will be charging a nominal fee of $19/person to import third party results into Family Tree DNA. For an additional $39, customers who transfer their third party results will also have the option of testing with Family Tree DNA so that they can receive genetic matches, ancestral origins, and other features that Fami ly Tree DNA customers receive. Why transfer to Family Tree DNA? Family Tree DNA is the world leader in DNA testing for genealogy. As of August 23, 2011, the Family Tree DNA database has 212,000 Y-DNA records including over 104,000 distinct surnames. Comparing your results against th e world’s largest database gives you the greatest chance of finding relevant matches and provides more refined information about your results. Over 90% of genealogists choose to test with Family Tree DNA, creating the largest community of active genealogists in the industry. Transferring will allow you to join projects, communicate with experts, and network with people who share your interests and your heritage. What do you get when you transfer third party results? The $19 fee will provide customers with an FTDNA personal page which will allow them to join FTDNA projects. This means results will be available to the administrator and included on the project’s public page for compar ison with other project members. The $58 fee ($19 transfer plus $39 for testing additional markers to make results compatible for matching) will include the same features provided to FTDNA customers: Matches: Genetic cousins who share the same paternal line. You will have full access to your matches’ names and e-mail addresses and any genealogical information they have provided. You can immediately begin networking and exchanging information freely. Ancestral Origins: Your matches’ paternal origins, listed by country, provide clues about your own recent geographic and ethnic ancestry. Haplogroup: The deep ancestral origin your direct paternal line defined by your specific genetic signature. Migration Map & Frequency Map: Interactive maps detail the ancient migrations of your paternal ancestors and the distribution of your haplogroup from more recent times. Y-DNA Certificate: A printable certificate which includes your name and marker (STR) values. Unlimited Updates: As our database grows, you will receive notifications about new matches we find for you. There are no subscription fees for this service. GEDCOMS GEDCOM is an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunication which is a cross-platform plain-text file program developed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Nearly all genealogy programs support the importin g and exporting of GEDCOM files. In 2005, Family Tree DNA debuted the feature of uploading a GEDCOM file to the "My FTDNA" page. This allows your matches to view your uploaded tree. By uploading GEDCOMS to your DNA results, it can be a timesaver if mat ches can view your tree without having to write and ask you for your lineage each time. Additionally, there are matches that would have never been discovered if a GEDCOM had not been uploaded. If you do not have a genealogy program with which to create a GEDCOM you can download free genealogy software from MyHeritage.com. To get the latest version of this free software, Family Tree Builder 5.1, use the follow ing link: http://www.myheritage.com/family-tree-builder Tips: Do not attempt to upload an entire GEDCOM with thousands of names to the MyFTDNA page as it will reject it. It is much easier and less confusing to create GECOMS of just the Y-DNA or mtDNA line that the DNA was tested f or. With Family Finder results, we recommend uploading a tree with all direct lines back to the 5th generation. If the results have been or are going to be uploaded to ysearch.org or mitosearch.org, then also upload your GEDCOM to those results as well. Success Story Submitted by Brian Picton Swann "Recently received a 37/37 match with another Swann. This Swann line has a high academic content; retired Professor of Economics at Nottingham University; another became Lord Swann and was Governor of the BBC, Who's Who , etc. Another held a Royal Warrant and made spectacular items out of wood (like the Queen's medal and stamp display cases at Windsor) – before he died. The early members of that line were all early Norfolk Quakers – wh o kept beautifully documented records – until the family moved to Yorkshire in the 1830s. So their line is impeccable. I have always had a niggling suspicion over the William Swan of Worstead (1724-1798) in my line. I know he arrived in Worstead in Norfolk in 1755, but the 'best fit' I could get for him in all the surrounding parishes w as a baptism at Banningham, some 10 miles away, in 1724. Nothing to substantiate the move. And I have never found the places of burial of his father and mother – probably in Norwich is my guess, and only some thirty-sev en ancient parishes to search. Not quite as bad as London – but still pretty challenging. But this DNA result pretty much nails it. We match perfectly. So now I guess it is in to reconstruction of other Swan(n) families in Norfolk to see if we can trace any other lines from the mid-17th century down to the p resent day." Sometimes the best of documentation can be incorrect. As to the legalities of stewardshi p on the old burial ground, John gives excellent advice on where to start. If the last owner/owners of Ye Olde Robbins Burial Place signed the property over to the State of NJ this may be a binding contract. In Jan. 1, 1884, Barton B. Hutchinson son of Charles Robbins Hutchinson drew up a 4th release conveying trust from Nathan Robbins (the only survivor of the 3rd release executed on Sept. 16, 1847) to Aaron H. Robbins, Samuel H. Robbins, Courtland S. Robbins & Barton B. Hutchinson. Barton was an attorney & I assume things were done in a proper legal manner. CRH wrote a history of the Robbins Burial Place including the history of ownership that was published it in the Robins, Robbins of NJ book. Please keep us posted on any information you receive from Mr. Greenspan. I would love to see Ye Olde Robbins Burial Ground be preserved & ownership placed in the hands of Robbins descendants. If it continues as it is now, there will be nothing left but possibly the monument by the road. Sara ----- Original Message ----- From: todd.d.robbins@... John Robbins, b. c1797, (where?); his descendant has a DNA marker value that is common to descendants of Richard Robbins, b. c1710, who lived in North Carolina. I wonder if this is a connection or is it a parallel mutation. I'd like to know where this John Robbins was born or lived before he reached Monongalia. (is this one your's?) There was a large Robbins family in Washington Co., Kentucky, in late 1700s and early 1800s. I'm wondering if this record belongs to this family: Washington County, Kentucky, Deed Abstracts, 1792-1803, compiled by Faye Sea Sanders (Louisville: privately pub., 1991) p. 7: A-108 - 28 May 1794 Power of Attorney - Evans Watkins of Wash. Post Date/Time:2011-12-23 16:26:14 Subject:Re: A Memorable Robbins Family Christmas Gift Sara - What a wonderful Christmas gift for you & your family! In the Fall of 1978 my Dad was diagnosed with AML leukemia (the same disease that took my Mother from us before my Senior year of High School in 1976) During the course of treatments, I receieved a phone call at work _ my Dad had slipped into a coma & wasn't expected to live until the next day. I left work, drove for 2 hours, and spent the night next to his hospital bed. I talked to him, held his hand, cried and prayed. Sometime before the sun came up I fell asleep. I woke up to find my Dad looking at me - He wanted to know why I was at the hospital on a weekday as I had college & work to go to. I spent the rest of that day with my Dad and returned to Saginaw later in the evening. They were able to get the leukemia into remission & I had my Dad for one last Christmas. God blessed me so much with such a wonderful gift that year. My Dad passed away in March of 1979; every year I remember that gift and give thanks for those extra few months that I was given. Hold your family & friends close this holiday season, and remember to tell them how much you love and appreciate them. May God Bless, Debby ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sender:Robyn Post Date/Time:2011-12-24 10:02:45 Subject:A Robbins Family Memory Shared at Christmas My story isn't heart-squeezing like Sara's or Debby's, but it does connect me with my Robbins family roots at the holidays, so I'll tell it: My branch of the Robbins family, in South Jersey, were oystermen through those days of my childhood, when it was still a viable business -- a story that Sara can tell better than I can. So, oyster stew was a treat at the dinnertable, back when we still lived up the road from Port Norris. It largely disappeared from our menu once we moved here to the Southwest high mesa (read that, "desert"), since oysters were hard to find and expensive, shipping not being then what it is now, so I never learned to make the "ancestral recipe" -- just oysters and their liquor, a little butter, and milk, no vegetables, no messing around. I did miss it, I must say. Several years ago, I joined a family-of-choice who gather annually on Christmas Eve, with everyone contributing something to the celebration. I was delighted to discover that one man's contribution is oyster stew, made exactly as it should be made! While praising him lavishly, though, I did notice that two things were absent -- OTCs, and horseradish -- so I saw this as a contribution that I could supply. I've heard it said, and I often repeat, that it must have been a brave man who ate the first oyster, and OTCs (Original Trenton Crackers) must be their perfect companion in this respect. Unlike those dainty lightly-salted fripperies sold in most places as "oyster crackers", OTCs are a humble basic item, made with wheat flour and (apparently) only enough vegetable oil, salt, and yeast to make a dough. In appearance, they're about the size and consistency of a smallish walnut, shell and all. Their subtle flavor (I'm being generous in my adjective) serves to enhance the briny richness of the oyster. After quite a search, and the outlay of a breathtaking amount of money for such a thing, I was able to secure a supply via mail-order. The horseradish is the prepared kind that you find in a jar at the supermarket, but should only be the "creamy" variety if that's all that you can find. So, now, the full oyster stew experience of my Robbins childhood is shared each year, right along with the posole (an essential New Mexican tradition) and the angel biscuits and country ham (from our hostess). Every year, one more brave soul asks me, "What do you do with those crackers?" and I demonstrate the technique, placing one into each palm, clasping my hands and grinding the crackers against each other over the bowl, until they're shattered into suitably small pieces. And I offer the advice that just a bit of horseradish is all that's required. And, if prompted, I'll tell about the pre-dawn excursions with my favorite aunt, as she supervised the daily departure of the oyster boats. (I think I was the only one of my cousins willing to get up at 4 AM to go with her.) And, thus does Robbins heritage live on. Thanks, Tod, for the challenge! Robyn jrobin11@...
