Augustus J. Robbins I was contacted by a researcher for information regarding 2nd Lt. Augustus J. Robbins 1839-1909 who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his service at the Battle of Spottsylvania. His record, portrait & photo of his gravestone can be found on various websites. Interesting but not significant that his name is inscribed on his photo as A.J. Robbinson. Here are just two websites on 2nd Lt. Robbins. http://vermontcivilwar.org/museum/moh/bios.php?input=5000 http://www.cmohs.com/ Augustus J. Robbins was not the son of the 10-Aaron line's Augustus Robbins born 1817 in Monmouth Co., NJ who was the son of Ephraim & Lydia Ford Robbins. 2nd Lt Robbins has no relationship to the Daniel Robins/Robbins family & was born in Vermont to parents who were also from Vermont. He traveled around the country to quite a few places before settling in NJ & has a colorful life story. He first arrived in NJ in 1883 & met Lucy Clayton of Lakewood, Ocean Co., NJ. Soon after he moved to Lakewood & spent the rest of his life there. Lucy & Augusutus had a son Clayton Augustus Robbins. A. J. Robbins is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery at Lakewood with a gravestone that mentions his MOH. Although he lived in an area populated by Robbins his only link to NJ was his relationship with Lucy Clayton. Sara
