He married COLUMBIA ANNA MCKEE December 07, 1873 in Laketown, Wisconsin (Polk County), daughter of MILTON MCKEE and MARY WALLS. She was born January 13, 1856 in Shelby Springs, Alabama, and died October 13, 1937 in Mosby Creek, Lane Co., Oregon. Notes for JOSEPH SAMUEL LAKE: Might have been died on May 6, 1909. Oakland is in Douglas County, Oregon. Notes for COLUMBIA ANNA MCKEE: Name might have been spelled Columbiana. Although her obituary has her named spelled as Columbia, I believe it was probably Columbiana which is what she was called by a great neice who I spoke to. Columbiana is the name of a town in Clay or Shelby county Alabama, near Bluff Springs, which is where the family lived when she was born. I'm sure she was named after that town. The following material was taken from an article written about Columbia McKee upon her death by her children. I found this article at my GrandMother's house in Beaverton, Oregon: Mrs. J. S. Lake dies after long illness: Mrs. J.S. Lake, 81, who had been ill for some time, died at 9:30 Wednesday evening at the home of her son, Henry Lake, of Thornton Corners. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Columbia A. McKee was born January 13, 1856, near Shelby Springs, Alabama. When quite young she moved with her parents, Milton and Mary McKee, to near Talladega, Talladega County, Alabama. When she was 13 years old, the family of the parents and their children, John C., Zack J., Charles Leonard, Lamantha, Delila and Columbia, moved to Cherokee, Alabama, where they stayed a year and another son, George Lindsay, was born there. The family left by river steamer May 15, 1869, for St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, where they settled. Columbia McKee was married to Joseph S. Lake on December 7, 1873. Both joined the Christian church soon after their marriage. To this union eleven children were born, two sons and nine daughters. Late in September, 1894, the family emigrated to Oregon, settling near Oakland, where another daughter Minnie was born. The family lived there for several years. Mr. Lake died there May 6, 1909. In 1910 with four daughters and one son Mrs. Lake moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon where she resided until the time of her death. Mrs. Lake was the mother of twelve children, two sons and ten daughters; Mrs. Sophronia Cox, Eugene; Andrew C. Lake, Noti; Mrs. Frances Briggs, Grants Pass; Mrs. Sophia Miller, Cottage Grove; Mrs. Olive Porteous, Castella, Cal.; Mary Lake, deceased; Mrs. Dora Havens, Sacremento, Cal.; Mrs. Anna Myers, Cottage Grove; Henry M. Lake, Cottage Grove; Mrs. Matilda Mary Cole, Eugene; Myrtle L. Myers, deceased; Mrs. Minnie Myers, Cottage Grove. She is survived by two brothers, Charles Leonard McKee of Webster, Wisconsin, and George Lindsay McKee of Portland; eight daughters, two sons, twenty nine grand children and twenty nine great grand children. (taken exactly as it was written) She might have been born in Randolph County, Alabama. From a note given to me by Rosilee Lake: "Columbiana A. McKee was born January 13, 1856, Talladega, Alabama. Emigrated with her folks to Wisconsin. Married to Joseph Samuel Lake Dec. 7, 1873 at Alabama Corners, Wisconsin. 12 Children, 11 living. With Family moved to Oakland, Oregon Oct. 1894. Lived in Douglas County Oregon until Nov. 10, 1910. Her husband died May 6, 1909. Has resided near Cottage Grove, Oregon since Nov. 1910. Member of Christian Church".
